Here I go opening up another can of worms - but I prefer to call it... a gift box!
Really, I get it - It is an uncomfortable topic and conversation but has a lot of significance in solving some of the big issues in individuals and relationships. This won’t apply to everyone, but it applies to many.
Some of this is hard or upsetting to hear and our first instinct can be to ignore or push it away because it can be painful to identify with truths we would prefer didn’t exist. Many can feel angry about it, or even feel angry at me because it may seem I’m making someone “guilty.” I assure you that’s not the case but I encourage you, like I would with any triggering thing, to stop if you feel yourself shutting down and try coming back to it later. Maybe after journaling about it or sleeping on it.
At the end of the day, the only way to change for the better is to look at it head on and get real about how this is affecting you. For some that decision may happen this week, for some it may be 6 months or 6 years from now. Your level of open-mindedness will affect that timeline greatly.
Since this issue is so huge, I’m going to make it a bit more digestible and touch on 3 main things. This episode will by no means by exhaustive, but I believe it will be informative and will help plenty of people begin to solve this sticky and incredibly pervasive and prevalent problem.
- barriers to resolving this issue
- the potential effects of being raised by a single mother on your current relationships/in dating
- what you can do about it
**UPDATE: big lessons here so I’m breaking it up into two parts. This one is very important to the foundation of understanding the problem so you can solve it.
As more people share this information and are willing to speak up about it, more will realize you are so far from being the ‘only one.’ Many share big pieces of the present problems you want to solve, yet have not been able to put their finger on the source of the problem. I believe this will help. Please share!
